Facilitation
Facilitation is a key part of our skill set. It embraces:
- workshop facilitation
- partnership brokering
- training activities
Workshop facilitation is a flexible technique which can be used in a number of ways to support project objectives. For example, it can be used at the beginning of a project to clarify objectives and understand expectations. Alternatively, it can be used during or at the end of a study to discuss emerging findings, to verify conclusions and to discuss possible recommendations.
The skills of the facilitator include:
- knowledge of relevant subject matter
- preparation skills to design an optimal agenda that is fit for purpose
- experience of managing a diverse group of people
- probing and asking pertinent questions
We use a range of techniques which can help to maximise the value of a workshop.
Post-it exercises involve empowering participants to express their views in a non-threatening and efficient way by posting views against key issues. Scoring exercises have been used to gain peoples views on a set of conclusions or recommendations. PPVote system is a set of keypads linked to a receiver, using MS PowerPoint, which can enable voting on questions or issues similar to that used on Who Wants to be a Millionaire? This can be very effective with larger groups and regeneration communities.
Workshop facilitation is used in a variety of projects from those aiming to develop a business plan for a partnership through to larger evaluation assignments where diverse stakeholder groups can contribute to the study.
In addition we have delivered a number of training courses utilising some of the above principles complemented by training expertise.
