Measuring Outcomes

Evaluating impact and effectiveness of interventions and measuring outcomes is our core business. We are experienced in drawing out what works, in what context and why across multiple workstreams. This is integral in providing feedback to clients that allows them to build on, evolve and develop their approach in the future:
  • Research into Effective Professional Relationships (Action for Children) - This UK-wide research explored features of effective professional relationships with vulnerable parents that support improved outcomes for children. The study included case study work, undertaking consultations with families, practitioners, managers and partner agencies. Results contributed to internal training and development strategies; provided evidence to support communication with external commissioners; and informed workforce development programmes.  The findings have been used as the basis for national awareness raising workshops on measuring outcomes for family interventions.
  • Our Young Carer pathfinder evaluation (Department for Education) involved primary research in eighteen local areas over three years. The research engaged professionals including strategic leads, operational managers, partner agencies and professionals supporting young carers and their families. Our analysis focused on drawing out effective models of support for young carers and their families, identifying the critical success factors and challenges in developing models and identifying the impact of the support on outcomes for young carers.
  • Our large-scale, multi-method evaluation of Family Pathfinders (Department for Education) focused on assessing the effectiveness and impact of holistic family support on improving outcomes for children and young people with multiple and complex needs. Our evaluation demonstrated that holistic family support had a positive effect on NEET and potential NEET young people by improving school attendance. The analysis involved triangulating a range of evidence from survey data, secondary data review, case study data and SROI analysis.
  • We have extensive experience of undertaking studies involving economic evaluation including cost effectiveness studies and SROI.  We have recently been commissioned to undertake a social return on investment analysis for Youth at Risk’s Home Office funded Blueprint programme. In this exercise we are developing logic models to understand and assign costs to the support programme and identifying outcomes through self-assessment questionnaires and local agency data.
  • Access to Apprenticeships (Rathbone and London Development Agency) – this ESF funded project worked with young people who needed further support to engage in an Apprenticeship and who otherwise would become NEET. The methodology involved analysis of management information, interviews with key stakeholders, a survey of young people and case studies with participants and their employers.  A gross to net impact economic evaluation also formed part of the methodology.
