Interestingly, DIUS recently announced the introduction of 30,000 Adult Apprenticeships. We conducted the Evaluation the Adult Apprenticeship pilot in 2006 and are pleased to see the policy being implemented.

Our current work includes a major research study into the Skills for Life Improvement Programme for the QIA.

Learning and Skills Policy and Delivery

The Leitch Review set out a compelling vision of the UK becoming a world leader in skills by 2020. This will only be achieved through a learning and skills system that meets the needs of individuals and employers, transferring policy to effective teaching and learning that maximises learner achievements. Our Learning and Skills team is currently working across the full spectrum of adult learning and skills provision.

At present, we are evaluating the Quality Improvement Agency’s Skills for Life Improvement Programme. Through this work, we are reviewing how this major national programme of quality improvement and workforce development support is contributing to improvements in the experiences and achievements of some of the most vulnerable learners.

We have worked closely with the Learning and Skills Council on a number of key programmes, which includes the evaluation of Young Apprenticeships and evaluation of the Apprenticeships for Adults Trials.

We have a wealth of experience in researching the costs of learning and skills provision and are currently researching the costs of Young Apprenticeships in different occupational sectors and geographic locations in England.

We have considerable experience in researching ways in which skills needs are being met through both formal and informal mechanism. This includes current research into the role of the LSC’s National Employer Service and research into the use of networking approaches to acquire new skills by businesses.

Our work across the full range of learning and skills policy areas means that we have expertise in working with all the key stakeholders, all types of learning providers and different learner groups.
