Quantitative Surveys

We are experienced at designing and undertaking a wide range of survey work, covering quantitative and qualitative methods and developing sampling frames.

Quantitative methods

Our recent assignments have involved face to face surveys, telephone surveys, web-based surveys and postal surveys. Our experienced market research staff work closely with selected fieldwork companies to achieve the most effective survey designs. We are experienced in selecting appropriate methods, constructing sampling frames, questionnaire design and survey management. In addition to the production of tables we also undertake additional statistical analysis in SPSS.

Recently, we have undertaken quantitative survey work with a wide variety of respondents including teachers, pupils, parents, young people, general public, learners, non-learners, university students and public sector professionals. Sample sizes have covered small and large samples from 400 through to 5,000 respondents.

Qualitative Methods

We regularly undertake qualitative research on its own or as part of wider studies. This is usually by:

  • focus groups
  • depth interviews
  • paired interviews

For focus groups in particular we use a combination of a structured topic guides and projective techniques which can help to elicit underlying attitudes to key issues or questions.

Our recent qualitative work includes a study involving 21 focus groups with ethnic minority participants and a study where we undertook 100 depth interviews with teachers and tutors in colleges. With large scale projects we use the software MaxQDA to analyse the qualitative data.
