Research into Level 4 and 5 Provision

Undertaken for the Gatsby Charitable Foundation, this qualitative research project explored three key themes in relation of the provision of Level 4 and 5 qualifications in England:

  • The viability of Level 4 and 5 qualifications.
  • Labour market and employer influences on take-up of Level 4 and 5 qualifications.
  • Providers’ approaches to widening participation of Levels 4 and 5.

The research was structured around a programme of face-to-face consultations at 23 post-16 providers across England. The majority of the forthcoming T Level routes were covered during the research.

The findings from the study were used by the Department for Education in its review of Level 4 and 5 provision.
